Here is our monthly (más o menos) newsletter to keep our friends and family updated on what is happening with Hope House Children’s Relief (HHCR) and Hope House in Mexico. For those who don’t know, HHCR is our not-for-profit 501(c)3 and all donations received are directed solely to Hope House (Casa Hogar Mi Esperanza en el Corazon) in Ixtlahuacan de Los Membrillos, Jalisco, Mexico. The newsletter will provide updates on the boys – especially the new ones – a little insight into the staff, teams, vocational training, projects, and items of special interest. If you know of someone that would be interested in HHCR/Hope House, Mexico updates, they can subscribe here.
A copy of last month’s newsletter can be found here. If you go to this website there is a link to all previous newsletters.
The banks we deal with have worked out something so that we can transfer US dollars to Mexico. We tried it and it works. So now we are set. Fortunately we had already, a couple of years ago, established a Mexico bank account so we would not have had a problem for a while the banks worked things out. But now we can get back to business as usual again.
However, we are still relying on our reserves to carry Hope House through each month, especially with the aguinaldo being due only three months away. We are short about $1000 each month. Remember that the aguinaldo is a government mandated Christmas bonus and must be paid (and should be!) for all the hard work the staff put in to make Hope House the professional place it is in providing hope in the future for the boys.
The Boys
There are still 21 boys now in Hope House.
One of the New Boys
This is Liam, 4 years old, one of the youngest children in the house. He has only recently entered the foster home.
Liam is a very cheerful boy; he likes to play with his cars and action figures, but he also loves to play in the yard with shovels and toy machines; he’s always on the go!
He likes to eat everything. His favorite colors are red and blue.
He just started preschool and is very excited to learn and have fun.
The photos below are Liam posing for the camera.
Preschool Boys
The little ones in our family are very happy and excited to be back in school. We wish them the best for their preschool years.
They are very excited wearing new shoes and uniforms and also having new backpacks.
Graduation
In this new school year, several of our boys moved on to a new level, leaving elementary school to move on to middle school. We wish our older children, Kevin and Diego, the best; we know they’ll do excellently in this new phase.
Activities When not in School
Weekend activities: include park outings and crafts! The first photo below is of some of the many crafts the boys are involved with, not just to keep them busy but also a big part of their educational training.
The second photo is of them visiting a local park and having snacks.
The third photo is of them visitng the Malecon (lakefront) in Chapala with Lake Chapala and surrounding mountains in the background.
A Very Special Occasion
Although legally married under the laws of Mexico, Omar and Emily desired a more celebratory wedding ceremony followed by a reception. For those of you who don’t know, Omar is on the adminstrative staff of Hope House. Our 501(c3) works directly with Omar continuously. We have known him since he was 10 years old and been in the same worship band for approximatley 15 years. A few years ago Emily joined the band as a vocalist. Over the years they have both been part of our Bible Studies.
We were so thrilled to host the wedding in our garden. The first photo below is Omar and Emily saying their vows. And, yes, Walt officiated, a first in his lifetime. His resume is getting longer and longer.
Donation Options
Remember, HHCR has been approved by PayPal as a legitimate 501(c)3 charity. This makes HHCR part of the PayPal Giving Fund. The impact is that all donations made through the PayPal Giving Fund are free of any fees. And since HHCR operates without any management fees, every dollar donated through use of the PayPal Giving Fund button goes 100% to Hope House. Some of our donors have already made use of this opportunity to donate to HHCR. Donations, including recurring donations can also be made via Ministry Brands (formerly Clover Give) through our website, PayPal, bank transfer, or via check to our Laredo address. At this time the PayPal Giving Fund only works for one-time donations. Recurring donations can be made through the regular PayPal link, which will add on a fee that is deducted from the donation.
HHCR is now also registered for Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT) with Fidelity Charitable.
You, too, can make a difference.
Even the smallest donation helps a boy have the safety, security, and love of a home environment, plus the education to succeed in life.
